I had my monthly visit with my Oncologist today; a very pleasant fellow who came to this country from India. He has ushered me through three bouts of chemo treatments, and this nearly two years after a large tumor was removed from my gut by the good Doctors at the Cleveland Clinic.
Anyway as things progress I have periodic PET Scans done and today was the day for my date with the machine. I showed up at WVU's Ruby Memorial Hospital at 7:00 this morning for the scan and an accompanying Ultra-sound scan of my heart, which is expected to be much effected by the Chemo medications I am now taking. My last scan lit up tumors in my lungs, liver, and once again in my gut.
Today's results indicated an improvement. My heart is sound, the tumor in my liver is now undetectable, and my lungs are holding their own. My blood pressure is now in check, the sudden blurring of my vision two weeks ago was not a stroke, and mercy of mercy the pain pills are controlling the constant aching brought on by the mix of pills I take.
Yeeeee-Haaaa! I ain't dead yet. You know, people say you fight cancer, but I don't think that's really how it is. What you do is live with the cancer and try to make the best of that life. At least for me that's how it is. I do what the Doctors tell me to do, exactly wht they tell me, but on my side of the fence I do everything possible to take care of myself and continue a normal life. It ain't so bad.
For those who have sent me their best wishes and prayers in the past I want to thank you; they've worked so far.

(2,667 posts)I am imagining my dog* stretched out on the table with his front legs up over his head while the round thing goes merrily whirring away. I like that old dog a good bit, I think I'd volunteer to take his place if I could.
* He's actually the baby of the bunch as far as our dogs go. He's many shades of brown that are more or less symmetrical, we owned the mother (Lab) but the father was just passing through. Normally we gave away all puppies but me and Albert, as he would come to be known, sort of formed a relationship. You know how it goes.

(1,113 posts)Congratulations, and continue what you are doing, it seems to be working. I survived a battle with cancer, so far cancer free till my next check up in Sept. Continuing with my every three months checkup. Good luck to you and sending prayers to you.
