What's a movie you saw as a kid but didn't realize a significant part of the story until you saw it (Original Post) Incitatus Jul 2013 OP
Dumbo. As a kid, it was about a baby elephant. As an adult, bigotry and prejudices. uppityperson Jul 2013 #1

I saw most of the early Brando movies and liked them but didn't understand more than 5% of what they were about.

As a kid, the message I got was that trees are good and we need to stop cutting down so many trees or there won't be any trees.

As an adult, the message of corporate greed and the dangers of capitalism and consumerism to the environment became clear.

I suppose overall it was a pretty good presentation that one could read or watch for enjoyment and entertainment, but still take away a solid message.

Geisel was quite brilliant.

Buggs Bunny and such. Never realized till later they were made for adults. Lots of references to pop-culture and the zeitgeist of the late 40's that I didn't get till I was an adult. Also the hand drawn cels made for superior animation compared to the computer generated crap that came later.

As far as movies: I'd say 'Walkabout'
