The DU Lounge
Related: Culture Forums, Support ForumsI am feeling so very happy tonight...
Now, this is not in and of itself, remarkable. I am often happy.
But something happened today, that I made happen. And this was after a pretty good day...
Today, I saw a baby spider in my kitchen sink. I hated seeing it there, knowing that most likely it will drown and I won't be able to prevent it...
But I was determined to try and save the little life..........
So, I got a kleenex and whaddya know, the spider crawled onto it. And then I was able to take it outdoors and it crawled off onto a wall............
And away it went.
Too cool.

(149,602 posts)These were tiny spiders.............tiny!
I really rather doubt they will get huge any time soon...
At least, I hope not...

(16,950 posts)The world needs more people like you. I tend to do bad things to spiders because they're creepy. Maybe I should reconsider these tendencies.

(149,602 posts)I have always been scared of spiders...
I had to get over that so my daughters wouldn't pick up on it from me...
And now only the really big ones, or the ones on the ceiling over my head bother me...
And these tonight (there were 2, actually) were tiny, so they didn't scare me at all.
And remember, spiders eat mosquitoes! I hope the two I saved will do that!

(205,264 posts)I do much the same thing, except I have a plastic cup at the ready. Spiders are our friends.
CaliforniaPeggy
(149,602 posts)A plastic cup, hey? I like that idea. I just might do that too...
And I agree: spiders are our friends.

(205,264 posts)I usually have a piece of mail, like one of those magazine subscription cards, to cover the cup when I take it outside.

(149,602 posts)Hey, no problem...
I wanted to rescue mine since I had to use my sink. I tend to leave them alone when I see them elsewhere...
Your cat eats spiders?
HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)The old girl (17 years old) doesn't have the spunk to stalk them any more. But the other three are just 3 years old and love to hunt. It's a bit awkward because they are all inside cats and their hunting is limited to spiders and shadows and the occasional red dot. We have no poisonous spiders on the wet (west) side of the Cascades so the cats are safe in their pursuits.
I had to stop one of them from trying to eat a wasp that was in the house up against a window.

(5,166 posts)I don't do well with direct physical contact with wildlife, no matter the size.
I enjoy observing them, including the birds, chipmunks, and deer that pass through my yard.
My daughter (the vegetarian) would do as you did, though.
This past year she rescued -on two separate occasions- the two small mice that appeared in my home, after a lifetime of never having had a mouse.
Thanks for sharing.

(149,602 posts)And I would not be brave with mice...
I too enjoy watching wildlife. They fascinate me.
