http://www.mercurynews.com/bay-area-living/ci_23867696/dog-recover-after-eating-2-pounds-rocksSeven-year-old Gordon had emergency surgery at BluePearl Veterinary Hospital Wednesday where a surgeon removed 16 rocks from his stomach, according to a report from KMSP-TV.
If a dog happens to eat a rock, they usually stop at one or two, according to Dr. Jeff Yu, who performed the two-hour procedure.
Gordon just kept going -- the rocks weighed nearly 2 pounds.
Cute, but dumb as a box of rocks.

(14,881 posts)my sister's lab eats rocks. He's needed surgery twice. Firsttime to remove rocks. Second time to remove acorns. Personally, I think he's trying to commit suicide. His gut is in bad enough shape now that he probably won't survive a third time, even if they do cough up thousands more ($7,000 worth of surgery so far).

The Velveteen Ocelot
(115,951 posts)was known to eat rocks, though never enough at once to require surgery. He was well-fed; he just liked rocks. He was also about as dumb as a whole box of them.
Wait Wut
(8,492 posts)...I saw the subject and was going to share the story of a friend/neighbor's dog that used to eat rocks.
It was a Golden Retriever. A coworker's dog had to have surgery to remove a bath towel. A Golden Retriever.
At least my pittie never actually swallowed the cell phones.
