How did you figure that out? Bertha Venation Aug 2013 #3
(96.45/15)*100 ? jakeXT Aug 2013 #2
ok, it's good to know that formula Bertha Venation Aug 2013 #4
You know what 15% is, by dividing through 15 you know what 1% is. jakeXT Aug 2013 #6
Thank you, JakeXT. Bertha Venation Aug 2013 #7
You make two fractions as ratios to each other. Here is how you do it... stevenleser Aug 2013 #8

And then you can multiply with whatever you want know.

If you want 100% you multiply with 100. If you want 50% you multiply with 50 and so on.

Each time you want to solve one of these just remember there are four possible figures in two ratio fractions and you just have to place them correctly and then cross multiply and divide. There is the percent over 100 and there is the number that represents 100% and whatever other number whose percent you are attempting to measure. For instance, lets say you want to know if 6 is 60% what is 100%

60%/100% = 6/x

Well, most of us can eyeball that and say that x=10 but once you set up the fractions you multiply whatever two diagonals you have and then divide by the other number, in this case 6x100 and then divide by 60.

Let's take another example. Lets say you want to know what percentage of 30 is 22 . The ratio you set up is:

x/100=22/33

You multiply 22x100 and then divide by 33. and you get 66.666667% Again, most folks can probably eyeball that but this is the way to do it in cases where you cannot. Let me know if you want more help!

I wonder if my lack of such knowledge is due to the algebra teacher who told me I'd never get it.

Or maybe I just didn't pay attention.

Anyway, thanks!
