But look at it from our perspective. Your government is still well evolved past ours. At least you are standing on our shoulders as we both go down the 'traditional values' shitter of righteous micromanagement.

We used to have a fold-up message in past dollar bills that showed a devil in the Queens hair.

Damn these hidden messages....!!!

The "D. G. REGINA" on the coin is abbreviated Latin meaning "By the Grace of God, she is Queen".

If the queen is included for traditional purposes only, where does that leave god? Seems to be projecting the same outmoded message.

I also remember getting ripped off by a few bars and retailers because all the paper money was the same color.

Ours has been "color-coded" for as long as I can remember - different denominations, different color.

Unused to all the money being the same color, I would say hand over a 20 - only get change for a five or a ten.

I learned pretty quick to pay the smallest denomination possible,

and keep an eye on the bill I gave to the other person as they made change.

I rarely even look at the denomination of bills, blue = $5, purple = $10, green = $20, pink = $50, beige = $100. I've seen that you have started to add some light tinting to some denominations of late but that seems more for counterfeiting purposes and not for recognition.

The difference is how much debt we seem to be comfortable carrying.

Personally I find credit cards incredibly convenient, I use them for every purchase I possibly can. I just never pay a cent of interest.

We switch to plastic bills a couple of years back, much more durable and very hard to counterfeit. That silver bar on the left side of the bill is totally transparent. I think the Aussies did this first.

If one pays cash, as I do in some cases - I use the pennies.

when I use debit - it's rounded up or down.

Pennies are still legal tender, as are $1 and $2 bills -

but I suspect that anyone that has those discontinued bills will save them, or sell them to collectors.

And some avid collectors will be grabbing every penny they can.

On another note, when I lived and visited the USA many times in the past -

they couldn't believe we had a $2 bill -thought it ridiculous.

But now - we got the TOONIE!!

Take that!

At least that's how it works everywhere I've gone. If the bill comes to $1.21 you pay that exact amount if you pay with plastic. If you pay with cash they round it down to $1.20. Pennies are still legal tender yes but they aren't used unless the customer wants to get rid of them. Stores will take them but they don't stock or buy them anymore. I think many stores don't want to deal with them any more actually.

As for collecting it will be quite some time before pennies are worth anything, but hang on to them if you are willing to wait that long I've got a few crisp $1 bills at home.

In the mid 90's I had collected 200 $2 bills as they were phased out -

used them at face value to pay a debt - some were pristine.

Would be worth much more than $400 today methinks.

oh well.

Yes, racism. The original bill had an Asian woman looking into a microscope. This was deemed racist in two ways. First, it encouraged the stereo type that Asians are often smart people.

The bastards!

Next, it was racist because it was not another ethnic minority, implying non-Asian ethnic minorities are not smart enough to be scientists.

The bastards!

I am seriously not joking here.
