and I can't find it. It is NOT the smoke alarms, I checked all of those at 2:10 am. I think the cats might be involved....somehow..

(73,630 posts)I know, because I found one in my own house last night as it lay dying. It's pathetic calls for help beeping in five minute intervals.
I found it under a desk and then plugged it into a waiting charger, saving it from the depths of oblivion.
All is good in Mudville.

(54,770 posts)I had a dying smoke detector thatI could no locate for months. nuts. Finally had a kid with good hearing track it down.
I had several, but for some reason stuck this one in a basket of computer wires and other junk.

(20,234 posts)it was a brookstone bbq fork thing with a meat thermometer built in - it must have got bumped and turned on. It was in a drawer convinced that steaks were ready.

(21,020 posts)at my house once.
It was a teensy little circus clown running around honking his itty bitty clown horn.
I hunted him down and killed him.

(130,865 posts)I'd checked smoke alarm too, seemed ok, but ended up it WAS smoke alarm. Remove, disable, take a vacation, return, and no beeps!!!

(3,557 posts)The sump pump was in a hole that was a foot or two below the concrete slab. So, the concrete was dry, but the water level was slowly creeping up and the pump wasn't running.
It took me a very long day to figure that one out.

(3,557 posts)When/if the wire for an invisible fence is broken, the unit will beep as well. It took my wife several hours to figure that out once...

(32,967 posts)and the cats were not involved in this strange noise in the night. I was in the basement doing laundry, and I could hear it clearly enough to track down a dying digital alarm clock in a suitcase in the storage area; I have not used that suitcase since last May,geez was that sheer luck in finding it. I guess I should apologize to the cats and give an extra treat to all 3 of them today for my suspicions.

(19,288 posts)I looked for a wild animal in my pantry for months back in the 80's. The compressor was going out in the frig and made this squacking noise at intervals.
