My internet provider is a local outfit and in several years, there have hardly been any problems and the ones there were were resolved by disconnecting the modem, waiting a bit, then reconnecting.

I didn't try that first. Probably should have. Called the provider and got a bad phone rep and gave up the call.

Weirdly, could connect to the internet and to all other sites except Google, albeit slowly. I don't know whether there is such a thing as Google being "down," but that's what popped into my non-tech mind.

Later at a Costco, I tried gmail sign-in, and it worked. Back home I tried the provider and the tech merely had me disconnect the modem and reconnect and it all worked again. The tech had no clue as to what might have been wrong, just that the rainy weather might have messed with the lines.

Note to myself: Try the simple first.

Thanks to all.
