2. I had a Demento-like radio show and played this once or twice. The rest of their music...

... from the two CD's I checked out was absolute garbage. I believe the guys in the
trash bags in the video are the actual duo of Barnes & Barnes (Billy Mumy, the boy
on "Lost in Space" is the one on the right).

I believe it was the most-requested song ever on the 30+ years of the Dr Demento
show on the radio. You can still pay about $2 a show to hear him on the Intertubes
(and his website lists his playlists, if you want to find out about more contemporary
novelty music -- yes, it's still around.)

We brought him to Tucson for a live show (I bet he still does them) and I couldn't
see how he would do it -- I assumed it was going to suck. He was incredible!!!

I got to be his gopher for the weekend. We were crossing the street one night and
this fan rushed at us hollering incoherently. I thought he was trouble and wrapped
him up in a big bearhug. Turned out he was a huge fan and just got overexcited.

Of course, he was excited to see Dr. Demento, too.

6. You're not a Barnes Head?

Oh well. Their "stuff" is very simplistic and I think most of it was directed towards their fans like myself. I haven't listened to that "stuff" in years and Fish Heads is not my favorite song of theirs. It was the 80's and weird ruled, at least to me. The subjects of their songs was pretty tasteless "Boogie Woogie Amputee" being an example.

I also was a fan of Dr. Demento and would listen to his show on Sunday nights laying in bed with an AM radio placed under my pillow. I think locally it was on very late and of course I had to go to school the next day.

3. I have that as an album

Shaped like a fish head. yeah!

Years ago when I would buy a record from Rhino Records one of the first things I would do was to read that section on the album on the inside before the label to see what was written there. It's the part where you stylus would go to after that side of the record was done just before it ejected.

It was always something like "I like cheese" or just some other nonsense.

I found a bunch of my old records today when my Ex came over to pick up a few things. I should look them over.

The guys that started Rhino Records have a new company Shout! Factory. I like that they pick up the slack when shitty companies like Fox and Sony don't finish putting out the rest of a set of DVDs for TV shows. FFS! if you're going to sell the DVDs at least complete the sets.

4. A friend got to interview Billy Mumy and discussed 'Fish Heads'

Sam: Let’s bring it back to something else. After In Praise of Pip, my second favorite thing you did is Fish Heads.

Bill: (Laughs) Well there’s quite a few years in between.

Sam: I understand that, but when I was a kid, before YouTube, the Fish Heads video was legendary. It was a rare occurrence if they showed it on MTV. Even to get a recording of that song was gold.

Bill: Fish Heads has been very good to Barnes and Barnes. We continue to make a surprising amount of money from that song, which is of course over thirty years old. Rolling Stone named it number fifty-seven of the one hundred videos of all time. It was guerilla novelty film making, and rock, and the right people put together to do that.

12. I remember being about 19 or 20 at the time...

I had come home with a friend after a Phish concert in the wee hours of the morning dosed out of our gourds.

The friends father was a big Deadhead back in the day, and had this cued up on the cassette player on the porch and played it for us when we arrived home. This very apparent premeditated effort on his part had him in stiches; drunk on cheap beers and laughter...
