We've only lived together a few weeks. One day, all of his stuff was gone from the bathroom. My other roommates told me he would be gone for a couple weeks because of a "family issue."
Over the next couple weeks, he showed up at the house and seemed to be physically okay. A package came in the mail from a medical clinic addressed to him.
Anyway, I don't mean to be a gossip queen, but over the month or so that he lived here I learned that he...ummm...is very sexually promiscuous.
Just now, another one of my roommates told me he would be moving out and back in with his parents due to a "severe medical problem."
I asked what the problem was and she seemed very troubled in giving a response. I told her that if she wasn't suppose to tell me that she shouldn't and left it at that.
It's all very strange.

(38,311 posts)He didn't live to see modern HIV treatments.
I had another friend in college who became a heroin addict and moved in with her pimp-boyfriend. She herself, once she escaped that, said it was a miracle she didn't have AIDS.
The saddest job I ever had was seeing our hemophilia patients dying of AIDS. I'd sometimes take the calls from family members telling us the fight was over.
The real world sucks sometimes.

It must be pretty warped that my initial thought was "thank god I never took him up on his sexual advances."

(41,976 posts)With HAART medications developing AIDS can be held at bay for a long time. Still, there is a stigma attached. I work with many people who are HepC positive, and I'm at higher risk of being infected with that than I am my HIV patients. One of the things I do is provide kidney dialysis, so I'm at constant risk for blood exposure
I lived through the 80's and lost too many friends to count to AIDS.
I hope your roommate finds to help she needs and doesn't lose friends over this.

(22,845 posts)He has been kept alive by antiviral medications and medical charity care. At the moment, (always knocking on wood) he's in good shape.
