Happy Equinox!

Today at 1:44 PM PDT will be the fall equinox for those of us on the left coast of the USA. (If you live in the southern hemisphere, then for you it's the spring equinox.)

In my neighborhood, the streets are aligned with the points of the compass. We have streets that run either north-to-south or east-to-west. There are big streets on section boundaries, which are exactly a mile apart. This is typical of much of the USA. (Try converting that to the metric system if you think we should get rid of non-metric units such as miles, yards, feet, and inches.)

If you live on or near a street that runs from east to west, and if the weather is clear, you can watch the sun set in the middle of the road this evening. It's quite a striking phenomenon.

I plan to be in the middle of my street tonight at sunset, watching that very sunset!

It is cool beyond belief.

Happy Equinox to you!

Yang looks sort of like an owl, but I can't figure out what kind of animal yin is.

I don't think the sunset will be visible tonight.

Oh, well, loving the cool fall weather anyway.

Happy Equinox!

9. E+1 Update
Mon Sep 23, 2013, 10:17 PM
Sep 2013

Yesterday (E Day) my wife and I walked outside at sunset, but the view from our street to the west was blocked near the horizon, so we couldn't see the sunset very clearly.

Today (E+1) we did what we should have done yesterday. We drove to a point where we could see the sun set over the ocean. It set right where it was supposed to: right over the center of the street. (One day doesn't make a noticeable difference.)
