I'm so sad... going to possibly lose an election tomorrow due to no fault of my own

I am running for Commissioner in my township tomorrow. It's a long story as to why I am running and why I am very qualified for this seat; but the upshot is that tomorrow I have a very good chance of losing because not ONE of my best friends will come out and help me work a poll to greet voters.

I've worked hard, knocked over 111 doors in the last 72 hours alone... sent a mailing to Democratic women who vote regularly (I will be the first woman on this board in over 20 years!)... I have been phone calling when I wasn't door knocking... I even have a nice web site and FB page (my opponent has neither, but he is a white male Republican businessman so I guess he doesn't need to try so much.)

I ran for election once before and lost... well actually I WON wherever I had people greeting the voters --- but where I did not have people, the white male businessman I was up against that time beat me and won the overall election.

Well now tomorrow I am up against this new white male businessman (he admitted publicly he doesn't know the issues but he wants to "do the right thing." Great. ) There are two precincts; I can do one for 13 hours but can't cut myself in two to be at both. If I can't get these 2 polls covered I am going to look like a damn fool and the local Republicans will make plenty of hay with it.

Anyway this is deja vu all over again I am afraid. I have called literally everyone I know and everyone is either sick, or they have an excuse. NOT ONE of my friends will make time to come out and help. Well I fear that in 24 hours I am going to lose a lot of so-called friends. I don't care anymore. People say they are progressive, they want change, well then stick your money where your mouth is or go to hell.

In the meantime I should get some sleep but I am too heartbroken to sleep.

If it was Republicans or teapartiers causing this, I could deal with it. But these DAMN progressives who think they are being BIG activists by hitting "like" on a Facebook page... ugh.

God forbid don't ask them to do any real WORK... or donate money... or ANYTHING like that because they are TOO BUSY for such stuff. But oh, they are progressive. And they care. Oh, yes they do.

And that is why Republicans, and teapartiers, and white male businessmen who keep women out of elected office; that is why they are winning.

have been too sick myself to do half what I should do. And then there's the same bigshot "activists" who write a letter to the editor and backslap themselves silly but won't hang out in front of the post office with you.

But, we've got a fairly well organized party apparatus here (which also has major problems getting enough volunteers) that at least has an organized phone bank and walking schedules. We're also using VoteBuilder, which saves a lot of time with GOTV. And there's usually someone to help knock on doors and meet&greet.

I assume you're running on the Democratic line, and maybe one or two other smaller parties. How's your organization? Win or lose, could you spend the time until the next election building the party base? I understand if you're sick of it all by now, but we had a moribund party here until "new management" came in and kicked ass. We're not running the town yet, but we're growing fast and are respected.

It is a shame you are far away. I'd love to help out in something like this at least once in my life.
