The 11AM part may be something of a myth, but it sounds good. (Which is it, GMT or Paris Time?)
Today is the anniversary of this Armistice Day, when the fighting in WW1 mostly ended (although the Brits kept torturing the Germans with a naval blockade for several more months).

(4,076 posts)I really did know that. For some reason, I put too many 11's in my post. The war only started in 1914.
In 1916, Wilson ran his presidential campaign with the slogan: "He kept us out of the war". Irony of ironies!
(I fixed the OP to cover up my egregious blunder.)
