If it's a CRT (cathode ray tube), it might be wearing out. I think the phospherous starts to deteriorate over time. I'd test this by putting another display source on your computer to see if the problem is with the monitor that appears to be failing.

Just words or all graphics?

Do you have any brightness/contrast controls you can fiddle with?
How old is the computer?
Any idea what graphics card you have?
What version of Windows?

Does it happen in every program or just web browsing or some combination in between?
Can you post a screenshot (being careful not to post any personal info in the shot. )

Don't worry if you don't know all the answers - tell us what you do know and we can tell you how to find out the rest.

when I reply to a post
the type in the reply title box is very faint
but the type in the message text box is not.

That is the only time I have experienced faint type.

I asked Mr. Dixie about it once, some time ago, and he told me I had to add ink toner to the computer, like oil to a car,
and there was a spigot on the puter I had to find.

Freely translated, that meant " don't bother me with small problems, wait till the puter stops working"

I am working on getting him back for that.
