people stare at the makeup on his face
laugh at his long black hair,
his animal grace
the boy in the bright blue jeans jumped up on the stage
lady stardust dance on
darkness and disgrace

Well okay but... if childhood memories count when we are grown up (over40) it's all good.

When I was a teenager, I had the album on a continuous loop that would play every night while I slept.

It may sound like a strange idea, but I have always thought that Willie Nelson could do a wonderful version of "Lady Stardust"
A few years ago, an acquaintance of mine produced a Nelson album, and I was highly disappointed that he did not have Willie attempt the song. Or Reed's "Satellite of Love" Another song which could have been marvelously sung by Nelson.

A sweet, torchy ballad to a cross-dresser. Only David Bowie could write it...
