I sold my brother's car through them and we got $1500 more for it than if we had sold it privately.

I'm thinking if I go through Carmax when I'm ready to buy I'll be able to get one around my price range.

Got it for about $1000 less than Blue Book value from a small used car lot about 200 miles away from home. It was worth the drive to save the money. I like that Cars.com does not just have dealers listings since my budget usually calls for getting older used cars. The Prius I bought is a 2006 - too old for a dealer to sell but still in great shape with low mileage.

Most places through Cars.com have links to Carfax.com for their models being sold so you can often check the history before you even go to look at the car.

I also used Edmunds.com to get reviews and specs on various models and years and Kelly Blue Book (kbb.com) to get values for comparison.
