(392 posts)but all of my conservative friends and family members love It, so I have always suspected that It was crap.

(21,020 posts)some of us here at DU who are not hard right and not Christian Fundies.
In fact, I'm an Atheist. And I don't pay attention to the praying stuff. Or any of the other stuff I don't agree with.
I just think it's funny as hell because even though the people are given situations for each show, there's a whole lot of ad-libbing going on.
Especially, I suspect, from Uncle Si, who never fails to quack me up.
graywarrior
(59,440 posts)but I felt compelled to do so in this one because I fucking hate fucking duck dynasty!

(6,154 posts)I already dislike most Reality TV. Reality TV about rich red necks? That doesn't sound like my cup of tea. But then I've never watched it so I could be wrong.

Yes, they're given various situations for each show, but for the most part, the dialogue is non-scripted.

(43,181 posts)I will say when it first came out, I saw it advertised, I thought to myself, "What person would actually sit down to watch a 'reality' show about people who make duck calls?"
And apparently, the answer is millions of them.
I don't get it, either.

(28,254 posts)I don't need any lessons in religion, cooking, humor, politics, guns, or anything else from these millionaire hillbillies. This show is a perfect example of the dumbing down of this country---an overt celebration of ignorance over intelligence. Genuinely offensive, as far as I'm concerned. I trust I've made my feelings clear.

They are not dumb. Not by a long shot.
I laugh at their antics, but they're probably way smarter than I am.

(31,515 posts)I don't get it at all. I hear people talk about the show and I still don't get it. Maybe they identify with it. They look like ZZ Top wannabes/rejects to me. Their faces are plastered on everything, including little girls nightgowns (how creepy is that?). There are even chia pets now for Willie and Uncle Si.

(14,400 posts)fortunately there's a lot of other stuff that doesn't involve morons playing up a stereotype for the cameras.

Once the conservative moralizing started, it wasn't funny anymore.
