This afternoon a cat I'd not seen before (it might belong to our new neighbors down the street) was munching on a tall dead plant in my next-door neighbors garden. Up walked a deer. The deer watched the cat for several seconds and then nuzzled the cats tail. The cat turned its head and looked at the deer and then turned its head away and went right on munching the plant.
The deer nuzzled the cats tail again. The cat didnt turn its head this time. Still munching the plant, the cat whacked the deer in the nose with its tail.
The deer then nuzzled the cats fur from one end of its body to the other. The deer did this several times, from the tip of the cats tail all the way to its neck, while the cat kept munching the plant. The cat finally got fed up and moved away. Thats when I tore myself away long enough to run inside for my camera and take a picture.

(12,153 posts)in western Nebraska, so I think it's probably a mule deer. Just a guess, since I don't know one kind of deer from another.
I think that particular deer must like kittehs, anyway. Me three.

(50,983 posts)There have been many whitetail-mule deer hybrids checked in during deer season there. That is right where the species overlap. We only have whitetail in Ohio. Good thing we have kittehs.

Now I'm going to have to find out what the kitteh deer is.

(39,909 posts)We also have two Working Kitties (Mousers),
a big male, and a small female who runs the house.
The Big male got along remarkably well with the young deer.
They became BFFs, grooming and playing with each other.
SweetTea eventually left (about 1-1/2 years old) and joined the herd of does that run around our area. WE think we see her from time to time, but there is no way to really know.
