It's almost impossible to get it right when I go out to eat...I either get pasta that is overcooked or not even cooked to al dente. As long as it's within an edible range, I'll eat it but a little bit of me dies inside when I can't get pasta cooked well.

It's not hard...if you take the pasta out and it's al dente...put it back in the water for another minute.
