NOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!! Naked Gun to be rebooted!!

Leslie Nielsen. Ed Helms. Ed Helms. Leslie Nielsen. About the same, right? Even if you don’t agree, you’ll get to see Helms take over Nielsen’s bumbling Frank Drebin character if Paramount’s remake of The Naked Gun franchise keeps progressing according to Variety.

Originally based on the 1982 ABC six-episode Police Squad! show—the TV version was cancelled after just six spoof-filled airings—the first Naked Gun movie hit theaters in 1988 and continued on with the goofily titled sequels The Naked Gun 2 ½: The Smell of Fear and Naked Gun 33 1/3: The Final Insult until ending its run in 1994.

The Naked Gun is a fucking classic and Leslie Nielsen played that role so well. Argh when will they stop with these damn reboots already?

I like Ed Helms and he's been great in flicks like Cedar Rapids and the original Hangover, but he's definitely not fit to fill the shoes of a deadpan comedic legend like Leslie Nielsen. I think Steve Carrell would be a better choice but I'm still against the idea. I would compromise though if it meant that they'd bring back Police Squad! as a weekly series with the same delivery of the original.

He showed a lot of potential in the film Cedar Rapids. I liked the first two of the naked guns but the humor in them is so dated they will have to work hard to come up with anything fresh.

The first Naked Gun is a classic and Leslie Nielsen is a legend. The one thing I would compromise on is if it meant a revival of the classic Police Squad TV show.

His comedy worked because he still delivered his lines as a serious actor with absurd dialogue and situations.

Ed Helms, and I love him as a comedian, has always been a comic actor, so you lose a great deal of the appeal right there.

The beaver scene in the first movie and the piano bar slapping scene in the second movie are two eternally hilarious movie moments.

I will give Helms a chance but the situational humor is far more important than the actor playing Frank.

Commissioner: Now Drebin I don't want any trouble like you had on the south side like last year, that's my policy.
Drebin: Well when I see five weirdos dressed in togas stabbing a guy in front of a full view of 100 people, I shoot the bastards that's my policy!
Commissioner: That was a Shakespeare In The Park production of Julius Caesar you moron! You killed five actors! Good ones!

Commissioner: He did what? How many animals escaped? Oh my god!
Drebin: Good evening Commissioner, you look lovely.
Commissioner: Do you realize that because of you this city is being over run by baboons?
Drebin: Isn't that the fault of the voters?

11. Why the "reboots?"
Mon Dec 16, 2013, 05:46 PM
Dec 2013

Because the Hollywood "suits" are all about looking for a "sure thing," and a "reboot" involves a known quantity that will attract a guaranteed minimum level of interest, even if driven only by curiosity about whether the new version can hold a candle to the original.

Remember that the noun in "show biz" is "business..."

damn, it was horrible. So bad, I couldn't finish watching the movie, and I'm normally one to stick it out till the end.

It's still a bad idea but after watching Men In Black III again - Brolin played Tommy Lee Jones' character perfectly. I could see him taking on Neilsen's role.

Hollywood isn't happy if they're not tarnishing the memories of old classics with new actors who rely on cheap, hackish humor and writers who think a story is just a collection of stuff that's been done before.
