Need advice from apartment dwellers, past and present.

My sloppy neighbours keep putting scuff marks on the new paint in the hallways. I keep wiping them off, plus their kids' paw prints. Should I finally tell the landlord? This is getting tiresome, it's only been a week.

It was a nice paint job and it's starting to look grungy again.

These neighbours do what they want; they do laundry next to my suite at all hours, they do 4 or 5 loads in a row that ties up the laundry room for hours, their kids screams at all hours, but muck up nice clean WALLS (I'm picky about nice looking walls) and watch out. I just knew they were going to muck up the paint.

I just sent an email advising of the scuff marks, there are some scrapes in the paint as well. It's just really been a few days since the paint job was completed here.

about permitted use of laundry room, as well as nuisances like loud noises/screaming people/kids, so landlords can begin enforcing any rules that exist. If they're not aware of 'violations,' they can't enforce.

it's one of those nuisance things that they have to catch the tenant in the act in.

But they damaged the walls, I heard it, the stairs are just outside my bedroom wall (it's a small apartment)
It's damage the painters might have to fix up again, so I guess it's only reasonable to tell the landlord. No other people with young children in the block seem to mess things up.

The landlord isn't likely to do anything. It's a "deal with it" situation like the tenant that leaves the laundry in the only dryer for three days. Been there, done that.

It isn't your place - just your place of residency. I hate apartments.

It is professional managed, so they do look into things.

It's a small apartment, so things can't get missed.

I found that to keep my sanity, I had to ignore a lot of what was outside on apartment, and focus on keeping the inside the way I wanted it. I also found that people who were destructive or inconsiderate usually did not last long---they were inconsiderate in many ways, like not paying their rent. I usually outlasted those people.

You were right to inform the management of the problem. The ball is now in their court, and they can deal with it or not. If it is a nice place, they will be concerned. And if they aren't, focus on the interior of your apartment.

And I'm very fussy about walls.... these are remodeled older little apartments, and they spent the last few weeks replastering and repainting the interiors, and then these slobs really do a number on the walls. After several days of wiping the walls, I figured, heck, why am I always cleaning up after others?

I have always treated an apartment the same as I would if I owned it. I never understood people who were pigs.

It is probably better that you don't keep cleaning that wall----let it show so their are other complaints too.

they left a crumpled, ripped up note outside my door. it was the one I left on the outside door to please be careful about moving stuff...it didn't identify them.

so I left a note under their door that I reported them to the landlord. And I left a note on my own door to stop leaving garbage out my door as I'm tired of cleaning up after them. They'll probably see that when they do their 4 loads of laundry tomorrow.

this should all end nicely.

leaving a ripped up note outside my door? I didn't put ANYTHING on their door, but in response to this I did advise them they were reported with the note under their door.

Maybe it's wrong, this tit for tat....oh well. I'll cool it now.

Let's hope that they are not around a long time, but if they are, you will have more problems now.

Obviously they know that you are going to cause problems for them, and from what you say, they are not the nicest neighbors. This will escalate if you don't find it in you to ignore it. These are the kind of people who will cause you a lot of trouble. You will have real garbage outside your door in no time if you don't leave it up to management to deal with this.

They kind of did it to themselves, and they know it. I cleaned up after THEM and they got all pissy about it? Odd.

Nothing else has happened thus far, I think they are lazy and dumb and will just go on their merry way.

I'll just ignore them the best I can, I don't really run into them.

I put on the note "Thanks for identifying yourselves!" And that I work every day and don't have time for this, and for them to grow up, stuff like that. I did use the word "slobs", but only once.

They were OFFENDED by a very mild, generalized note on the door? (which I don't think is a crime).

I shouldn't care but I'm pissy and just disgusted with people in general.
