Oddest or most inappropriate?
Personally I don't have any real stories to tell.
I guess the only thing I can think of that was a bit odd was that I received a set of work out weights a few years back from my parents. They want me to get in shape, and think doing so would be good for me emotionally and physically. I've always resisted their constant nagging on this line. But it was a heart felt and very well meaning gift so it's not that odd.
I'm sure some people have some doozies to tell of though

(36,298 posts)While I was in the Navy, my old church sent me homemade cookies in a coffee can one year. But they sent it to the ship I previously served one and which was in the Persian Gulf that Christmas while I had already transferred back stateside to Dam Neck, Virginia. By the time the coffee can caught up to my current location in February, the cookies inside had become dust with some crumbs. Multiple instances of rough handling while the can traveled to the other side of the world and back probably did the cookies in.

My old boss once gave me a big bottle of Yukon Jack, which is either really bad booze or paint remover, I'm not sure which.

The shirt came from my step-mother. I hate her with a passion. She regifted. Badly and obviously.

My wife and I gave them to charity. They have value, but are sinfully ugly.
They remind me of the 'art' crafted by Catherine O'Hara's character in Beetlejuice.

(20,234 posts)A unique indian print shirt that was actually kind of nice, I wore it a lot. It was a gift from my (now ex) husband.
It became the weirdest/most inappropriate gift after we got divorced, he remarried, and the new wife showed up to do the picking up the kid weekend thing - wearing the same shirt. He pretty obviously had decided to buy wife #2 the same clothes he had gotten for me.

(20,234 posts)The first gifting was nice for me because I liked the shirt.
The second gifting was also nice for me because it's always great to get confirmation that you're better off without an ex.
that is horrifically funny

He was one of those popular jock types in school--a big extrovert. I enjoyed art, theater, poetry, etc. so it was a very good "tease" gift to his younger sister.
We are great friends now. We both have a love for birds, animals, and nature. You never know how things will turn out.

(6,234 posts)My brother got a pair of skis.
The entire day I thought it was their idea of a joke, and that they would eventually let me in on the big surprise.

Two dead batteries were wrapped up inside.
Since I was the only person to get a "gift" from him, I was thrilled!
