I have certainly found this before. There are many nice hotels where I live on Saipan but there is one hotel in particular that would be perfectly fine if it was promoted as a low cost budget hotel - but its website makes it sound like a classy luxury resort. It is always best to check a number of reviews before you book - including some from sites like www.tripadvisor.com that features a variety of impressions from multiple actual customers.By Julie Zeveloff for Business Insider

Hotels aren't always completely honest when it comes to the photos they post on their websites.
Professional reviewers from hotel review website Oyster visited vacation properties from Barbados to Boston, and the photos they took didn't quite match up with the online fantasy.
If you're thinking of booking a warm getaway as the cold weather sets in, let these "photo fakeouts" serve as a cautionary tale against relying solely on hotels' marketing materials.
Some of these photo "upgrades" are so egregious, you'll think you are looking at pictures of two completely different properties.

Systematic Chaos
(8,601 posts)I think back to how this town looked when I got here as a 13-year-old in 1982, and how nice all the hotels were. Even Circus Circus was nice then and their huge buffet had very standard fare but it was tasty at least. I went back with a friend to it for nostalgia's sake in the late 90s and nearly cried.
But here's what has become of the once awesome Imperial Palace. It was turning into yet another failing Strip business, so it got bought out, changed its name to "The Quad", and they couldn't even bother to do a proper renovation on it before they let in guests. Some of these reviews are nausea-inducing. The fact that the parent company also tacks on unannounced "resort fees" on the cost of every room which you don't learn about until check-in is even worse!

(20,226 posts)seemed quite nice and not over the top they way I understand it has become. I did stop at Circus-Circus for their breakfast buffet then. I remember it was kind of fun and the food was good.

But I've never been to Vegas.

(6,154 posts)Whether it be a hotel, a book, Dr, a piece of consumer electronics. The advice is largely the same. Read reviews, lots of them. Read professional reviews you trust. Read customer reviews. Always look at the negative comments and reviews, and look for a pattern. A single horibble review or two means nothing, a pattern means stay away!
