We're with my daughter and family for the holidays.
Yes, it's been great being with them, so don't give me any crap about "just relax and enjoy your family".
Grandson 11, and granddaughter 6.
Grandson got an X-box.
That's the last we've seen of him.
And his dad.
Madden 25...'virtual' football 24/7.
Granddaughter wants to play with the X-box too.
Well sure she does.
It's on the big screen TV in the living room so that's all we watch...
24/7 since 08:00/12/25/13.
She gets about 15 minutes on some interactive dance thingy 'program'(?) and then it's the 'boys' turn again.
I think I'll go out to the kitchen and fix another drink.

(8,492 posts)How about you turn on some music and dance with your granddaughter?
One of the best memories I have is dancing with my grandmother when I was probably about 6.

(8,492 posts)...but, glad to hear that you're optimistic!
She'll remember the simple moments forever, trof.

(54,256 posts)Grandson and son-in-law are playing...guess what?
MADDEN 25 Virtual Football.
WOOHOO!
Our daughter is sitting next to them on the couch, texting on her iPhone.
Miz t. and I are enjoying libations (Scotch & water) and quietly discussing the trip back home.
Of course I'm here in on my laptop, posting on DU in self-defense.
I must say we have had some pleasant periods of family time when we've actually talked to each other. Not as much as I would have liked, but at least some.

(16,334 posts)we do a Dirty Santa gift exchange at the in laws xmas eve. It's still fun but it has gotten really strange over the years. With such a big difference in age groups, it's nearly impossible to think of gifts that everyone could want so that's not really a goal. It used to be fun to see how many things could get stolen and by whom. However, now people are buying things only THEY want and then they open those gifts for themselves, knowing they won't be stolen by anyone. It's so odd to me.
And then there was one nephew who loudly complained about every gift that was opened with stuff like "WHO would want that? That's hideous!" etc. and I wanted to ask why he was allowed to participate. Zero manners.
That's all for my curmudgeon-ness for this year.

(54,256 posts)I didn't like it much either.
Someone else always got the gift I wanted.
