I'm not seeking medical advice in this thread. I'm only looking for possible confirmation of whatever the hell my wife and I are going through based on others' experiences.
So here's what's going on. Three days ago, both of us started having symptoms, which are:
Me -- Slight chest and sinus congestion, headache and body aches, vertigo when sitting up or lying down, extreme fatigue.
Wife -- Slight cough, headache and body aches, very bad cases of the chills, extreme fatigue.
I'm talking fatigue of the "sleep 12 hours and nod off in a chair 5 hours later" variety. Both of us.
We're both clearly fucked up with something! Does this sound like the flu? I've never had this type of thing happen before, so I don't know. I've had killer colds and pneumonia so bad it almost killed me, but never anything this weird. Anyone else had symptoms like these without feeling like they also have a horrible cold?
On edit: Nevada is in the 2nd highest category according to the CDC map for seasonal flu outbreaks. I only get out occasionally, while my wife is out and about a few times a week. Her symptoms started a day before mine, roughly. So, this is some more evidence that we caught some kind of crap.

(8,601 posts)it fell through the cracks. They told me they had run out just before my discharge, and I forgot to ask again before I finally left.
My wife is only insured under the local low income services, so even getting to see a doctor is next to impossible, and she also forgot to get a flu shot with the many other issues she had to discuss in just a few minutes. Good news is that she will have full Medicaid thanks to the ACA! It's a definite step up from what she has now.
It's probably too late now, but I'll see if our local drug stores are doing them.

(20,185 posts)Peak season is actually January and February. I got a flu shot but still got the flu. It turns out the first batches of vaccine were for 3 strains of influenza and they found out there are actually 4 out there this year. It's always kind of a crap shoot anyway, but I still think they are worth it.

(8,601 posts)I count us both lucky, unless there is a sudden major worsening for either of us.

(8,601 posts)Give her our best and our good vibes, and I hope she's only as bad off as the wife and I. Sore and impossibly tired is better than coughing our lungs out and being unable to breathe too!
