Not sure where to put this, so I will do it here. Not long ago I lost my star, and cannot afford to replace it at this time. Without a star, reading DU is a nightmare. Half the time I come here the ads totally choke up my first gen iPad. Pages will half load and lock up. I have had it lock up so hard I had to restart it. Ad blockers are only available for iOS 7, which cannot run on my device. I considered just staying away from DU, because it was so damn annoying. If you are in this boat, try the free Mercury browser. DU has been pleasant all day (so far).

(34,582 posts)but it is, for me, enough to be annoying. I was going to get the Firefox suite, but that was $5. Mercury was free.

I know how it can be when things are tight, though. Wish we could donate stars like on DU 2.

The other ads are less of a problem, although they will slow down page loads, especially if they are animated ads.

(38,000 posts)But then, I avoid Safari and use Dolphin. I'll have to give Mercury a try.
Like others have said, it's when I encounter sites that use Flash or embed Flash-based Youtube videos that I get the black screen-to-home screen thing. Sites with a lot of scripts do it to me as well.
I keep hoping and searching for some Whited00r jailbreak thing that will let me force ios7 or at least, ios6 onto my iPad. I've been playing with it on my Gen 2 iPod Touch and I almost get it install ios7, then nope. I am gonna keep trying. I refuse to accept that machines that are less than ten years old are incapable of running reasonably recent operating systems. My laptop is an 8-year old Thinkpad T60 and it runs Windows 7 like a champ.
