For an upcoming book about arts, politics, failure and triumph...
We're seeking people who moved to New York city prior to 1980 to become a successful performer and failed at that, but succeeded in their subsequent career or passion.
Do you have an old aunt who came to NYC to be a Rockette in 1950 and ended up being a community organizer in Harlem? A friend who got fired from the circus on their first day of work but used their talents to combat illiteracy? Those are the kinds of things we're going for.
The right candidates will be interviewed and, in some cases, professionally photographed. It is not a paying position, and there will be no cost to them. We do not anticipate that the screening, interview and in some cases photography will require more than a thee-hour commitment for those selected. Probably much less - but enough time for them to get their story memorialized.
If you or a friend or family member fits this description, we'd enjoy hearing from you. If you think you might know someone who knows someone, please forward this URL.
We'll be checking replies for any questions, comments, suggestions or tips -- and checking this account's inbox for any private info.

(7 posts)The only NYC experinces I've had were traveling through. I landed in JFK many times, drove my eldest daughter there to take off for Hethrow and on to Budapesh (pronounced "Budapesht" . Curiously, both paths took me right past the Empire State Building. I looked out at the city from the top when I was about ten, but I didn't remember what it looked like at ground level.
I grew up in MD, went to school in Clarion, PA, moved to Milford, NH, and I'm back in PA across the river from Harrisburg. I'm not sure I'm what you are looking for, but I am liberal, off-beat (I look like Tommy Chong) and certainly willing to be profiled. Hit me up if you are interested.
