This is so sad. Ebineezer the donkey died. Everyone in Kansas City loved him.

He was 33 year's old and finally just wasn't able to get up any more. For years and years people stopped by his field to talk to him and give him apples.

Two year's ago he got really sick and people donated about $10,000 to help him out and also build him a new shed with a cement floor.

Last year they sold calendars for $17 and I think they sold out in a day. Eventually people bought 1000 of them to raise money for his vet care.

The really amazing thing was that the last day when he went down all the people who loved him and cared for him were there until the vet could get there.

And he was always great friends with the deer. The deer came out of the woods and stood around his shed - to say goodbye, I guess.

Good bye, Ebineezer. God Speed and run free.

Ebenezer the donkey dies, surrounded by friends
By DONALD BRADLEY
The Kansas City Star

Don’t look for Ebenezer, the old donkey by the road. He died shortly before midnight Sunday.
He was surrounded by friends who gathered in the warmth of his cozy shed when a vet gave him a shot that stopped a heart that for years had reached out to everyone who drove past his little pasture on Grandview’s west edge.

“He looked up at us like he knew we had done everything we could,” said a tearful Shirley Phillips, his primary caregiver. “He was at peace. He didn’t want to get up anymore.

“Then he sighed a couple of times, and he was gone.”

In this crazy world, it's heartwarming to see people care.
