(719 posts)McCartney is one of the Beatles...."the one who looks like a broad."
Of course, these Delberts have no idea who Joe Piscopo is either. Too many helpings of Ignorant McNugget down at the ol' Golden Arches.

(10,000 posts)I first watched the Grammys in '74. I was a kid, and IIRC, the Jackson 5 was supposed to perform.
Paul McCartney had most of his hits in the period from 1964-1984, making him basically a 35-50 year old act.
Translate that to 1974: It would have been like bringing in Louis Armstrong and Cab Calloway to the Grammys. Great acts, to be sure, and I'd have known Armstrong -- but I'd have been clueless on Calloway.

(14,811 posts)Once, back in the early eighties, I agreed to chaperone a junior cotillion (long story involving rich girlfriend). This one "cool" kid spent the evening following me around (rather than talking or dancing with any of the young ladies, although he kept asking for advice about which girl he should talk to and what to say etc.) and at one point near the refreshment table they played a Beatle song. That kid's buddy asked him who "that song was by" and the kid said "That's the band Paul McCartney was in before Wings".
