(149,599 posts)That sounds like a very good idea...
I wouldn't want to be out in that either.
Maybe the back of the drought will be broken with all this rain?
Hope so!
Stay safe!

(18,705 posts)I do try not to waste water. People here can't drive in regular rain.

(3,691 posts)I remember last time I got out and swore I'd never do it again. I'm staying home too!

Same thing with flooding.

(18,705 posts)Just a cloudy sky.
We can use the rain. Suppose to hit this afternoon and tonight.
Still in the 50's
Checked the weather for next week.
One night it is suppose to get about 28.
Keep the covers for your plants handy.
One cold front after another.
It is about 55 and doesn't even feel cold to me.
This will mean a miserable summer.

(53,998 posts)We can put a man on the moon, but we can't put chains on our tires or salt on our roads.
Looks like I'm gonna have to stop off at the Qwik-E-Likker on the way home tonight.

(18,705 posts)I think I can ride this storm out. I know how to drive in bad weather but it is the other guy driving to fast I worry about.

(28,941 posts)Do what you have to do to prepare for a power outage. Ice can and does bring down the lines.
Stay off the roads.
Good luck and

(18,705 posts)Old houses here had gas jets in every room. To many people take out the gas jets when they remodel. There is still a place that clean and repair the Dearborn heaters in Houston.. I have two heaters so if the power went out I would be nice and warm. It has started to rain and get colder. Houston is made for heat.

(28,941 posts)We have a pump; so we have a generator.
Can you keep all the electronic stuff charged?
I know I'm nit picking, but we're so use to having everything available and working; it's easy to overlook and forget stuff until it goes psssst.

(18,705 posts)This cold weather won't last long. We did have month of reallly cold weather a few years ago . It was in the teens. My pipes stay coverd with all the cold fronts coming in. I do not have a generator so I guess I would charge my cell phone with the car. We would be in a world of hurt if we had really cold ice storm. I have have heat. Water if the pipes don't freeze. I have a gas stove for cooking. Just need a match. I have a wood burning stove at the other house. A lot of the new houses are all electric. People would freeze here. We are made for heat here. AC is more important then heat.

(28,941 posts)We lived in FL for a few years and through a couple below freezing sessions. It was crazy miserable. So how are conditions looking now?

(225 posts)It's been below zero here most nights and single digits most days. I see far fewer wild animals at my deck feeders, but what they all seem to like is the ground level open fresh water. I see no source of that except on my deck.
I have one of these in a flat large dish:

I will never again have one of those concrete bird baths with a not attached top, after a terrible accident years ago when a small animal reached up to pull itself up to get a drink.

(15,220 posts)I'm here, as well. If it's bad in the morning, I'm staying put in my pj's and fuzzy slippers. I'll come to work when and if it's safe to do so.

(35,015 posts)you know as well as I do though, there will be plenty of accidents because people won't stay home. Should be interesting!

(18,705 posts)This may seem silly to those of you up north.
A lot of people don't know how to drive or dress in this weather.
We have a lot freeway fly overs that are freezing. Cars are stuck on them.
