Jelly Belly releases non-alcoholic, beer-flavored jellybean

The Fairfield, California-based candy company debuted a draft beer-flavored jellybean last weekend at the Winter Fancy Food Show in San Francisco. According to a press release, the bean is a “Hefeweizen-inspired ale flavor” with “clean notes of wheat” and a “mildly bready” aroma.

“Usually the factory has a sweet and fruity aroma, but when we’re making this flavor it’s just like being in an ale house,” said Jeff Brown, Jelly Belly manufacturing vice president, in the press release.

Sure, like being in brewery ... minus the buzz you get from taste testing. The draft beer jellybean, which the company has been working on for three years, contains no alcohol. Could this be the perfect substitute for your younger brother, who keeps asking you to buy him booze?

Though Jelly Belly didn’t suggest beer-bean food pairings, the company did suggest a few jellybean combinations to reinvent classic beer cocktails like beer-cider (two beer beans with one red apple bean) and Michelada (two beer, one lemon lime and one Tabasco).
