OMG, what is happening with all these pets dying?

Two here at DU and three on my Facebook feed in just the past week! Yesterday I was consoling a friend about having to put down her diabetic cat. I was trying to say the right things because I know how inconsolable you can be when you lose a beloved pet. And I think the worse part is knowing you "pulled the trigger" on the animal, even when it is suffering and the best thing. Nobody could tell me that when I was in the middle of it.

Worst of all things to do it to keep them alive because it's too hard to let go. But then, I truly believe that their souls live on. I'm sorry this is happening to so many you know. I cry just thinking about it......

the loss of a little pet. Your friend and companion who was always there for you is gone and will never come back to love and comfort you. Of course you are sad...

Eventually, just like with the people you lose, you remember the good times, the funny stories, but the loss is still there and with you always...

I've seen a number of wonderful dogs and cats out of this life (I tend to have multiples and I'm in my fifties) and it never fails to leave me in awe of how fragile and mysterious this little life is. I comfort myself by reminding myself that, at the end, I am there and saying the thing they all seem to want to know the most, that they are very, very good dogs and cats and that I am grateful for having known them.

We just do the best we can.

to put down two. My husband and I both have some spinal issues and cannot be as active as we once were.
So we are not in a position to walk dogs and we have to care a lot more for each other's disabilities than for the care of a pet. So we don't have one.
