Cable laying for Dummies

In case you ever laid in bed and thought, "I wonder how they lay cable across the oceans". Makes you really appreciate the guys laying the first cables way back when on those huge ships like the Great Eastern in the 1860's.

I like this illustration.

Now... if you could find one that shows the earth rotating on its axis while revolving around the sun so I can wrap my head around these issues:
- shape of our orbit (oval, circle?)
- angle of tilt of the earth and how that affects the seasons
- distance from the sun at different points on the orbit

That's enough for now... And BTW, I did search and none of what I found made my brain get it.

... though I suspect there's no need for that now. The same corporations that own the governments provide wire-tapping service as part of the package.
