Best Friends
My old gelding Algiers always seemed to have cat friends. Wherever he went, one or more barn cats would end up hanging out with him. And then I brought him home and finally figured out why. He'd been hungry as a baby, and got in a habit of leaving a handful or so of grain from each meal, which he would only eat as I was bringing his next meal. Saving a little just in case. Of course, the grain attracted mice, who moved into the wall nearest his feed dish. And then the cats started hanging out...well, duh!

(14,881 posts)and Luna my rhodesian-x rolled so hard in it today that he pulled his blanket of within 5 feet of stepping outside
Jake is a little more sedate, now that he's 9, what with his bad hips and all. But he still goes trotting in it!

(23,272 posts)Hell no.
My husband couldn't clear the paths to the paddocks quick enough today and both of my guys didn't get here til after 10 am so I had to slog all of them out myself through the deep stuff.
Pics 1 - 3 pretty much sum up the action out there today though. They do love to rumble through the fresh blanket of snow!
I'm bushed.

(14,881 posts)not so much this year...it's been relatively easy for me.
But I've had plenty of brutally snowy winters, lugging water from my kitchen down to the barn through hip-deep snow.
Heh! This morning I slipped on a patch of snow-covered ice and went down on one knee, but managed to *not* take an outdoor bath or lose all my water! I think I'm reaching world class levels of water lugging

(23,272 posts)The back paddocks where most of the horses are turned out, have heated troughs and the guys were on the ball yesterday and they were all filled and in good shape.
The two front paddocks? They require water lugging which ALWAYS splashes all over my pants and shoes.
Fuck that. I only turned out for 3 hours today since it was still snowing. As you know with event horses, water is withheld prior to running XC so 3+ hours without water isn't a deal breaker.
I just told the horses in the front paddocks to expect that they were running XC, or being trailered to a show for 3+ hours and to expect to get water at the end once they reached their stalls. My husband had a major fit about it but I even told him to fuck off. He ended up carrying the buckets out himself.
I am so thoroughly crashed this winter.
We're not going to FL to compete this year. Maybe that's it. Stuck in Northern IL for the year has made me a cranky soul...

I wonder if this one was created with bleach. If so, I don't think I approve.
