(112,417 posts)One of my friends had a brother-sister pair and both passed away due to kidney failure. The female made through 15 years while the male lived to 18.
BTW, Patches is a beautiful calico. Healing vibes from my calico in the toolbox, AC, and me.

(9,126 posts)Once you get past the squeamishness, the cats are real troopers. I HIGHLY recommend it. And if you need to save $$ buy in bulk from a vet supply!
Best wishes to Patches!

(14,807 posts)told me in private that sometimes the SubQ IV worked for some kitties so I tried it. His numbers got way better for a couple of years. After that he needed the IVs more but still it was not hard at all to do. He looked totally beautiful and healthy up to one week before he passed on.

(15,774 posts)and pancreatitis. We are going though the first round of treatment to see how he does. How DOES a cat get high blood pressure (she asks rhetorically). Thank goodness Mommy is a Nurse and he is a real gentleman. He takes pills like a dream and will sit for an iv as long as I pet him. If it becomes too much, I may have to help him across rainbow bridge. He was 8-10 yo when I got him and I have had him for 10 years. It has been wonderful. He has had a good long life.
Group hugs for those helping their ailing pets.

(3,818 posts)He was just diagnosed with high blood pressure about two weeks ago and have to go have him rechecked next week to make sure the dose is the right amount. I'm concerned about the medication Amlodipine causing damage to the kidneys too, but the alternative is worse.
Hey I had a cat named Samson too! (((HUGS))) to you and your kitty. I found that warming the saline solution makes my kitty much more tolerant of the IV fluids.

(3,818 posts)I'm nursing a CRF kitty too, and it is so worrisome. One good thing happened today though. I finally bought some Pepcid which the vets had recommended and gave my cat some. Two hours later he ate quite a bit, so I guess the Pepcid really helped settle his tummy.
I hope Patches improves. (((HUGS))) to you both.
I forgot to add this:
Patches is one beautiful kitty! I always loved calico cats. My first cat, Percy, was a calico cat.
