I heard two separate loud booms and noticed a very large pine branch had fallen. It appeared to be rather close to my house, so I needed a closer look. I did not want to be underneath the tree, but at a distance I could tell it took out my downspout and damaged a length of gutter. There is still a large branch up against the house, so I don't know yet if the roof is damaged.
I have not found the aftermath of the other crash I heard.
The gutters are over-sized which will make it somewhat costlier, but I have a $2000 deductible.

(59,940 posts)were some big lob lolly branches falling in the yard across the street. We got rid of all trees that could drop stuff on the house after the dreadful 2005 ice storm - all good here, and that was one of the most gorgeous dog walks we've taken in years!

(6,163 posts)Thank goodness we didn't get the snowfall of 2000!
I don't have a dog but I had a ball watching my neighbors boxer enjoying the snow!

(30,947 posts)and that was my biggest worry also, because in last storm a couple of weeks ago, I had a broken pipe even though I did all the precautions. I live in a mobile home, so this time, I put a heater under the house. I worried that if the power failed that I would have more broken pipes. Fortunately, I came through the storm with no power failure, downed trees or branches. I am surrounded by huge trees, so that was a big fear that those branches would break or one of those trees would come crashing down. But I made it through this storm with no damage.

(6,163 posts)My daughter in Wilmington said they lost power twice....once for 15 minutes and then for an hour.
We were all lucky. I hope we have seen the last of winter (fingers crossed).

(14,881 posts)We had a good 8" of heavy snow, and then it turned to rain and sleet mixed. It is blowing hard and sleetraining now. It wasn't supposed to turn until midnight, and then it was supposed to continue through the morning, so I'm hoping since it arrived early, maybe it'll be finished early.

(31,319 posts)no damage. No loss of power.
We won't be getting out of our driveway or off our lane until the snow melts, though, as we're on
a hill.
Lots of fun walking the dog on ice! Ack! She's a runner, so I can't just let her out or off the leash.
I was tempted, though, but she'd like nothing better than to run off chasing deer.
