Anatomy of a really good Valentine's Day....

Woke up, fed the four legged friends (how can dogs eat so fast...and cats so slow?) - made the coffee, then my sweetie of nearly 34 years and I had home made raisin walnut toast with honey and cinnamon.....spent the morning planning the garden, she quilted - the roads thawed, so we could escape...we went to lunch at our favorite Indian spot (Gobi Manchurian...mmmm!...chicken tikka patai, chicken makhani...yumm!)....got home, took a long dog walk (it nearly hit 60!), had a nice big salad for dinner, watch some Olympics tonight.

Nothing extraordinary - just another great day with my best friend and soul mate!

I hope everyone had a nice day and found something wonderful to enjoy!

(PS....thanks for the hearts...feeling a bit overwhelmed!)

I was supposed to be in Vienna, but my appointment got cancelled at the last minute, so I had the day off. Good timing!

We had our home-made müssli for breakfast with Ramseier Süssmost from Switzerland. My wife did some food shopping in our little town, and we had a light lunch of Alaskan wild salmon with horseradish and lemon on toast.

Later on, we went out to one of our favorite Italian places, the Trattoria Fellini, in the north of Düsseldorf (20 minutes by car from our house). My wife had spaghetti with Steinpilzen (a kind of mushroom), tossed hot in a partially hollowed out huge Italian cheese for flavor and a light coating. I had tagliatelle with monkfish and diced tomatoes with a light mustard and olive oil sauce.

This year will mark forty years together for us. Needless to say, we plan a few more low-key celebrations just like this one.

It's SO scandalous, i tell ya...
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
-- Got home at 9am after couch-surfing at a friend's house
(the roads were a snowy, icy wreck the night before... so i didn't want anyone risking their safety to come get me after work)
-- Made breakfast for Lyric and the boys (BetaBen was already at work...)
-- Made an amazing from-scratch chocolate fudge bundt cake with Lyric
-- Goofed around with Lyric while she played "Skyrim" (i'm not a gamer, but love to watch everyone else)
-- Made a huge batch of beef&rice tacos for dinner
-- Cuddled up with Lyric and Beta and watched a movie with the boys -- the Kirsten Dunst comedy "Dick", about the Watergate scandal, which we then had to explain to the kids. Gods, we're all old...
-- Stretched out on the couch after dessert (OMG the cake was amazing) and fell asleep watching "Dexter" reruns...
