We have AT&T DSL and I just ran a speed test and we get horrible numbers 4.86 mb/s download and 1.05 mb/s. My wife has to upload to a server for work and it takes her forever.
I was shocked to see how slow our speeds are. Then I also saw where Comcast (damn I hate them) is supposed to get 28.27 mb/s download and similar upload speeds.

(18,644 posts)It's roughly $60/mo for 22MB download. Never have problems. Consistent as heck.

(8,747 posts)Ping 15 ms. Your speeds are exactly why I ditched AT&T DSL several years ago, they simply refused to upgrade beyond 6 megs. Been very happy with Charter, very few problems with service.

(24,146 posts)we pay 40 bucks a month for their slowest speed and have never had any problems. my dad has dsl and it is maddeningly slow. it bogs down when even two people are using it.
i have no idea our download/upload speeds, but i can do everything i need to with no issue no matter how many devices are using it. i never want to go back to dsl.

(60,010 posts)something like 3.6 up, under 3 down.
We have to download when the other person is not streaming or downloading...Actually, not that much of an irritation factor since we do nt stream movies or play games online. I manage to get everything I want downloaded for future viewing.
but when I read that the US is a dead slug compared to other countries, I get heartburn.

(34,582 posts)I regularly get 37.5 download speed. I had an AT&T DSL only line for two years, because it was only $20 a month. Then, they started charging me $45. I called about it, and they said the introductory time was up. I told them my yahoo account still gets spammed for the $20 a month, but they said it was only for new customer. So, I called Charter. They promised 30 meg (I actually get better) for $29.95 a month for two years. In two years it goes up to $49.95, but it is still 10 times faster than DSL for basically the same price. Oh, and when I told AT&T to cancel, they said they could cut me a deal. Of course, they couldn't do that two months prior. I basically told them to pound sand up their ass. I have been very pleased with Charter, and am tempted to jump up to the 100 meg speed.

(12,132 posts)I pay for and consistently get 40 down although they recently offered 90 down I think...I doubt I'll spring for that though.
DSL was great when I went to it from a 56k modem but cable has got it beat by a lot now. I probably won't upgrade again until I can get fiber.
My first modem was 300baud plugged into my Commodor64 so this is pretty sweet.

DSL now, but AT&T probably wishes I'd go away.
There's probably a tag in their junction box that says "Get Off My Lawn!"
