(66,328 posts)I haven't watched any substantial Olympics coverage since the Summer Games in Seoul, 1988.

It seems quiet all over the internet tonight.

(50,130 posts)Wow. What a wild, wild OT shootout for the win.
Gotta love our goalie!!! Jonathan Quick.

(32,080 posts)I am glad he is getting some recognition with all of this fixation on friggin' TJ Oshie. Glad to see them give Ryan Miller a shot today, too. He's better than his NHL team, for sure.

(21,784 posts)I was watching Team USA (ice hockey) live (~7:30 am EST) on NBCSN
Yes, it was a whale of a game Saturday with Jonathan Quick in goal and "Sochi Oshie" the talk of the town.
This morning, I saw the USA-Slovenia game. Ryan Miller in goal ain't shabby either; as Quick was taking a well-deserved rest.

(32,080 posts)I just wish Jimmy Howard wasn't coming off of an injury. Don't think we'll be seeing much of him, sadly. Getting REALLY sick of this Oshie hype, however. He has a lot of other teammates who are just as capable in the shootout, but who didn't get a chance at it--and who are as good, if not better at the rest of the game beyond shootouts.

(5,604 posts)(as a Leafs fan), and I'm not a fan of shoot outs to begin with, but Phil Kessel will end up with the most goals by the time this is all over with, yet he still won't get any recognition.

(32,080 posts)Blackhawks fan since the late 1960s here. Phil's actually getting SOME recognition for the fact that he got the first Team USA hat trick in a good long time. I'm glad, but like you, I think he deserves more than he'll get--unless he is involved in some future heroics.
I hate the shoot outs, too. It's an asinine way to determine a hockey game. I hope they get rid of it in both the NHL and the Olympics. Wish the NHL would just go back to ties. Nothing wrong with that. What really irks me about the Olympics shoot outs is that they allow a team to use the same player over and over again. Oshie is this big media hero now just by the sheer fact that he was the one who got most of the chances. Never mind the teammates of his who contributed just as much, if not more during the regulation play. It irks the shit out of me.

(32,080 posts)We had an ice storm here (and an earthquake!), so I missed about 2 days worth. I'm mostly watching hockey (my favorite!) via web stream, and whatever is on NBC, as I have no cable/satellite. Actually, NBC is on, and I'm only half watching it. I like the snowboarding and various sledding events, and wish they would show some curling. Unfortunately, I already know the outcomes, so it's been no fun to watch a lot of it. I was pulling for people like Shaun White and Shani Davis (and other speed skaters), but I don't enjoy seeing them lose/not medal.
