Neighbor called my dog as he went running by...

"Here, boy!" -clapping his hands as he runs by, then acts in a defensive manner and proceeds to call the Sheriff's Department on me.

...on a 50-pound Golden Retriever!

How did the sheriff react when you said the neighbor called your dog?

4. Well there's a long-standing history in the neighborhood with this guy...

I'm not the only one. Every year he singles out a new neighbor to antagonize, unfortunately I'm his 'mark' for 2014.

Last week, he called saying that I tried to hit him with my car.

Same week, he refused to move out of the center of the road while walking his dogs yelling at me to be more patient and pedestrians have right-of-way.

Two days ago while backing out of my driveway, he kneeled down behind me to 'tie his shoe'

The Sheriff knows all this, his M.O. etc.

Basically he said that he called my dog in an effort to be cordial and out of the safety of my dog.

"It's bullsh*t" -said the Sheriff.

"His explanation doesn't make sense."

S.S.D.D. unfortunately.

It will be less stressful in the long run.

So glad the Sheriff is aware of your neighbor's problem.

Sorry you got to deal with one crappy neighbor. They can spoil a perfect day.

7. Sorry ANYONE has to deal with this jerk, who's clearly a few bricks short of a full load.

But I'm glad the sheriff understands.

Several years ago when I got a new neighbor on the south side, he turned out to be a real jerk too. Hates chows, and I had 2. I told him to ignore them (there's a big fence to protect them!) and they'd soon start to ignore him back. But no, every time he came and went he'd at least shout at them. Then several times I caught him leaning over the fence, swearing and waving his arms to stir them up. Of course he'd jerk back just in time before they could get him. Then he'd go indoors and call his buddy the police chief to try and get a fine on me for vicious dogs.

After a few such episodes, I went down to the town council meeting and raised hell. Told them exactly what had been going on. After 8 years these people know I mind my own business when allowed to, but when I'm harrassed, I yell like a banshee. It's easier for them not to provoke me. That's not the situation I'd prefer, but neither will I let these yahoos push me around even if I am the first liberal they've ever met.

Needless to say, the police stopped responding to my new neighbor's false complaints. He harrassed the dogs a few more times, but I jumped in his face, and well before they died at 16, he was leaving them alone. Weird thing is, he's notorious for having a huge crush on me. As if I'd give him the time of day! Now he's had such serious heart trouble that he hasn't had the energy to be such a jerk.

8. The worst part is...

(...and I'm not sure that the Sheriff should have said anything)

However, he's incensed that the email he sent to my employer stating that it was "unfortunate that you continue to employ an employee of such careless abandon towards pedestrians" has gone unanswered by my employer; that he was going to make it a point to show up in person to understand why he has heard nothing.

H.R. took my side of the story and ruled it out as anything warranting action on their part.

Essentially the jackass is trying to get me fired.

The likelihood of that happening is Zip.Zero.Zilch.

However, it goes to show the depth that this guy is willing to go on his vendettas.

It's outrageous.

unbalanced. I used to worry about my dogs getting poisoned, too. I trained them as pups not to eat anything except what I gave them, and then only after the okay signal; but you can't entirely trust that.

It's good that your employer is standing by you, at least. I'll bet when the other neighbors get together, they never lack for a subject of conversation.

My neighbor across the street has been harassing me off and on for years. He's tried to kill my horses by opening the gate and trying to chase them out and may have tried to kill my dogs by leaving an intact moose liver in the corner of his yard right by the road, to lure them into the street at a blind curve. He' trying to harass me into leaving or maybe drive me to bankruptcy. His friend wants to buy my house for half its market value.

My next door neighbor tried to kill my dogs by driving into my horseshoe driveway and sitting at the end, engine running. When we came up from the barn, my dogs ran around her car sniffing at it. I was screaming for the to come while she waited for them to be in front of her car and then gunned it into the street. Each dog jumped out from a different side. Apparently her plan was to mow them into the street and then claim they were in the road. She's just a vile person with no apparent other motive. Ironically, one of her 2 dogs was hit just a couple months ago when he wandered into the street.

Sorry you've had to deal with this, it seems as though we have similar situations.

My wife told me to be careful last night because this guy has sued successfully in the past.

What boggles my mind is why do you have to bring our dog into it? The dog is an innocent in this situation.

If you have an issue with me, keep it limited to me. Do not involve my dog, my wife our our children.

Last night we instructed our daughter not so give this guy the time of day. If he engages you, go into the house and lock the door and call whomever is necessary based on the severity of the situation.

Unfortunately, I do not see this situation ending anytime soon based on his escalation of things in the past two weeks.

Ugh.

Good luck with your own...

when I find out how crazy some folks act. Your neighbor sounds like a piece of work.

I hope you are keeping a written record of your family's interaction with him. Can you afford a security camera system? Get a go pro camera if you can afford it, and wear it when walking your dog - or even when out in your yard.

You shouldn't have to deal with any of this. But your neighbor seems more than a little evil.

If you can catch any of his harrassing behavior on camera it would be to your advantage.

Try to be discrete about it so you can catch him doing his real thing and present the evidence to a judge pertaining to obtaining or enforcing the restraining order.

OP also might want to file a lawsuit seeking damages for the stress & mental anguish this series of harassing events have caused them.
I have often found a legal offensive threat to be more intimidating than a physical one.

The OP might also want to suggest a 5150 to the sheriffs if they are as sick of the guy and his wasting their time because there is a history and series of seeming compulsive behaviors and actions on the neighbors part. Tell that to the judge too.
Any corroborating testimony from neighbors would be helpful too.

If the guy knows the law will throw them in a psych ward for 48 hours next time he might think twice.

It really does seem as though the guy has this down really well.

Walking the middle of the street, shoe tying, my dog, all episode which require me to engage the man.

5150 appears to be a California penal code; I'd have to look into what the qualifying equivalent is in New York State.
