Kanzi, the amazing Bonobo ape

I saw a documentary on PBS in the 90s that presented this amazingly intelligent animal and I was astonished. Kanzi was raised by primatologist Dr. Sue Savage-Rumbaugh and taught human language. Kanzi understands thousands of English words and their use in complex sentences. Kanzi can also generate sentences himself. Although he doesn't have the vocal chords to produce them, he can express them through their abstract representations as pictograms on a touch screen. Perhaps everyone is quite familiar with this story but I'm continually amazed every time I see Kanzi in action. There's even a video online showing Kanzi successfully playing the pacman game. Kanzi is still alive and is now 33 years of age.
