If you KNEW for a fact the world was going to end, would you let the world know about it?

You always see it in these disaster movies. Scientist learns the world is going to suffer a cataclysmic event that will probably kill billions. However, someone always makes the argument to keep it a secret to "prevent chaos." I watched "Knowing" last night and Nicholas Cage learns the Earth is about to be roasted in a solar flare. He tells his fellow scientist that they have to let the world know and the scientist says "no, we can't."

So let's say you find incontrovertible proof that the world as we know it is about to end soon. Do you let the world know about it? I'm not talking about just the President and other government types, but John Q. Public.

Yes, absolutely. People have a right to know to go be with the ones they love or seek shelter.

Yes, but I would wait till it was almost time so to avoid anarchy.

I'd tell my family and friends, but that's it

Fuck it, if chaos and anarchy reign, who cares, the world is about to end anyway.

If the world leaders want to keep it a secret, I'd be fine with it.

No, I want people to just live their lives and not know they were about to die.

I know I would probably be told that I am wrong.

However, I have to at least try to tell as many people as possible once.
If they don't want to listen, that is fine.

I will not repeat myself however. Telling once is enough, it is up to them what they want to do with the information.

...but I wouldn't waste the time I had left trying to get people to listen.

And I wouldn't be around people for very long.

I guess it would depend if it were a true end of the world ala giant asteroid to blow up the planet, or the "end of humanity" like the zombies are chowing down on people like a all you can eat buffet. If it was the latter, tell everyone and let them prep for war. If its the former, just go someone nice with those you love and wiat for the end.

It is not like you could probably do anything about it anyway. I probably would take the day off from work though and spend my remaining time with my furbaby.

You do have a facebook page, don't you?

I thought this movie was pretty good too:

Some days it sucks to have friends in the Time Lord business.

But no worries, it's a big universe, with plenty of happy-ever-afters for everyone, even after they're on fire and convinced they are toast.

Past and future never really exist; it's all fluid.
