I just went grocery shopping. According to my car, it was 62 degrees out. Everyone I saw was bundled up in winter coats or sweaters and scarves, gloves, etc. Me? I'm wearing a linen tank-top, capris, and sandals I think the temp. is perfect! I'm a native Angeleno, for the record.

(585 posts)Despite growing up in the midwest, I'm cold at 62°. I can be in the same room with people who are sweating and complaining about the heat & my hands will be icy to the touch. Right now I'm wearing three layers of shirts and have a space heater pointed directly at me, and I'm still chilly.

(5,364 posts)I know "room temperature" can vary for people, say 65F to 80F, but she likes it somewhere around 400. Riding in a car with her is torture: I find myself cracking a window and sticking my nose out like a dog... just to be able to breathe...to at least let my nasal passages keep from becoming seared to a crisp; meanwhile you can see the pained expression on her face and the way she tucks in her elbows that it's everything she can do to stave off hypothermia.
Must be a circulation thing?

(585 posts)I used to love getting into hot cars that had been sitting in the sun, especially after being dragged out to shop in air-conditioned stores. I don't even think about turning on the A/C until it's about 90 outside.

(14,910 posts)It was 42.
It's been brutally cold here in the NE this winter, single-digits and teens.
This was an old-fashioned New England heat-wave!
62 is beach weather!

(6,011 posts)then NoCal for five, Vermont for one year, then NoCal for nearly 40 years.
After living in both places, I realized that in the lower humidity of NoCal I feel warm in the sun and chilly in the shade at 60°F.
In the higher humidity of the north east the air seems to heat up more evenly, and becomes oppressively hot, at a lower temperature.

(5,364 posts)I prefer a northeastern spring or fall over any western day, but the summers are torture in the east.

(6,011 posts)because when my California born and raised MIL went on a trip there in the winter her daughter suggested that she get a pair of UGG boots. I think she enjoyed the keeping-her-feet-warm aspect of them while in NYC, but not the the "style", or lack thereof
After her trip, she asked me if I'd like them. In the winter when it freezes outside at night, in our old uninsulated house heated by a small wood stove and the heater in the old gas range in the kitchen, UGG boots are lovable!

(3,998 posts)I wear them on winter mornings, when it is cold enough. Haven't worn them yet this year!

(53,339 posts)News last night said it's likely to continue with showers through the weekend.
Some will have to sandbag against flooding and mudslides, though, especially in burn areas. The news said that 90% of fire stations in L.A. County are handing out sandbags.
Surprisingly, they're forecasting snow, too--down to 5,000 feet.
