Cat in a Barrel (not a picture or video, but a medieval sport)

Cat in a Barrel was a sport or game that involved suspending a soot-filled barrel with a cat in it from a high pole. Whip men would strike at it as they rode to and fro on horseback. Once the barrel broke and the cat fell out, it was usually killed.

The game of Cat in a Basket was a similar game played at fairs. There was a cat concealed in a basket which was then shot at with bow and arrow. I don't know what the prize was.

The Tom Waits' song We're All Mad Here features lyrics that refer to this old diversion: "You can hang me in a bottle like a cat. Let the crows pick me clean but for my hat. Where the wailing of a baby meets the footsteps of the dead
We're all mad here"
