Monks Monkeying with Money

During the Black Death, misrule broke out at Combermere Abbey, Cheshire in England. One monk was accused of theft in 1385. Sources described him as "a vagabond, apostate, and obdurate." In 1414 Abbot William Plymouth was accused of forging gold coins. Two monks stole books valued at 100 pounds. The Abbey was dissolved in 1539.
Today it is a private home, and you may also book it for a wedding.
