(49,990 posts)I can honestly say I know Americans just like that. That is, critical of others but completely unself-aware.
And of course, the irony is that for the next days and weeks Hollywood itself will also be criticizing it's own people. Best dressed; worst dressed, etc.

Can't wait to see either! But they all deserve the win, gravity was great but compared to the story of 12 years a slave they can't beat it.

The film was about the lives and trials and joys of legendary back-up singers to rock n roll, ie. Darlene Love, Merry Clayton, etc.
And Darlene Love herself sang out her joy at the awards in her best gospel style. Yea, sista!
If you ever get the chance to see this film either by DVD or at a showing, do it. I saw it in October 2013 at a local community theater that specializes in independent and out-of-mainstream film showings. IOW, you wouldn't see these films available at your neighborhood cineplex.

(7,699 posts)He was good in Dallas but I saw him in some TV interviews a few weeks ago and
he is so conceited he is nauseating. Proved it with his acceptance speech.
No humility in his talk of God either. He's just full of himself. Yuk.

I can understand what he was trying to say. It's not conceit, it's being able to love yourself and be the best person you can be in order to be the best person you can to others.

(2,682 posts)Our local Cinebarre theater showed the broadcast of the Oscars (3rd year that I've attended). There was no charge for a ticket to attend. Being Cinebarre (food served at your seat), I ordered a burger, fries and tea but ordering food wasn't a requirement. During commercials, they turned off the sound and had a master of ceremonies ask trivia questions. At the end, trivia answer pages were taken up, calculated and winners announced. Don't know what the prizes were as I wasn't one of the winners. All in all, it was a fun evening.
Agschmid
(28,749 posts)HeiressofBickworth
(2,682 posts)they had another contest. They handed out a sheet with all of the nominations. One could pick the winners and then turn the sheet in' the one who guessed the most winners won a prize. I didn't win that one either.
