Saw it tonight.
Since I LOVED art history in college, it was fun!
I recognized the Ghent Altarpiece and a Velasquez princess from Las Meninas, and a couple of others, but had no idea about the Madonna of Bruges being in Bruges.
Nor did I know they burned 20th century art. Cate Blanchett as the secretary mentioned that they burned Picasso, Paul Klee and Max Ernst works.
It's amazing that I like movies that critics don't. Everybody's different. Hell, I loved Now You See Me, last summer, which was a fun piece of fluff, and the critics picked it to death logically.
So far the reviews don't like Monuments Men. I guess movies where you can HEAR what people say, and shots which last several seconds so you can SEE details are unfashionable. Kind of like "Lincoln" last year, which was a very quiet movie.
It was cool that in the last scene, the old man looking at the Madonna of Bruges is Nick Clooney--George's dad!!!
I don't get tired of looking at George!

(131,277 posts)and really enjoyed it. I enjoyed the history as well as the art (got angry at Hitler again, almost similar to anger I felt/'feel about U.S. history re: slavery. 12 Years a Slave really got to me.)
Wondered who that old guy was!
