My car is about dead. My problem is, I won't have the money to buy a new one for another 2 months or so. If I can get from now til then, I should have no worries. My question is,what do I do til then? I've asked friends and co workers if they could help and their schedules conflict and nothing is working out. Only thing I can think of is renting a car for about 60 days. Anyone know if Hertz or Enterprise makes deals for people in situations like this? Anyone have any suggestions?

(20,176 posts)30 days to 11 months. They're billed differently from daily rentals, are usually older cars.
Budget: http://www.budget.com/budgetWeb/html/en/deals/monthly.html
Enterprise: https://www.enterprise.com/car_rental/momInfo.do
Avis: http://www.avis.com/car-rental/html/landing/monthly-rental.html
Also check your local non-chain rental agencies, you might get a better deal.
Some used-car dealers also offer long-term rental, it's a way to monetize cars that have been sitting on the lot and not selling. Also, getting the engine running and the car moving is good for maintenance. Cars get worn down by not being started or driven for long periods of time.

(5,062 posts)Thanks! I tried Enterprise. I told them the cheapest compact car they had would do. Told them I would drive to and from work 4 days a week, once a week to the store and or post office. Mostly stuff around town. Work is only 15 miles. The total they gave me with all the additional charges was $931 a month. That was the cheapest. I was expecting something a little cheaper.I even asked if they had older models with higher millage but none of their cars are over 2 years old. Thanks for the links!

(11,589 posts)I think they'll do long term rentals.
They are older cars, and some ain't pretty, but when Hubby and I decided to get rid of the credit cards for a while to pay down our debt, they took our debit card.

(23,272 posts)You can buy a decent scooter for about $1000 - $1500 that can get up to 55 mph.
Or look on Craigslist for a $1000 beater car that will suffice for a couple months. Then re-sell it when you get your new car.

(8,747 posts)Ask them if they have any cheap cars for sale. Check with local mechanics, ask them if they have any cheap cars for sale.

(22,271 posts)bus system in your area. Many cities/towns don't. How about an inexpensive bicycle? One of our local thrift stores sells them for $25.00 each, $15.00 if you go on the right day.
