Confused about tonight's episode.
So, last episode Ragnars wife goes into self-exile because she refuses to play second wife to the woman that is carrying Ragnar's child. And when she leaves, their son who is about eight or nine years old decides to go with his mum.
But this episode Ragnar's son is full grown at the same time that the mistress gives birth to the child conceived out of wedlock?

(17,742 posts)there is a younger son that Ragnar was saying goodbye to before they left for their summer raids. The first son that went with his wife was probably an early teen?
I like Ragnar. Does he shave his head every day or did they somehow make his hair not grow on those parts of his head? I like the shipbuilder too, Floki?

Feral Child
(2,086 posts)He had attended the Thing and completed the rite-of-passage adulthood when given arm rings by Earl Haraldson. He was given mead in early episodes, after this ceremony.
It's unclear when a Viking child reached majority because written record is scant, but I took Bjorn to be about 12 or 13 when he was given rings and swore fealty. Fealty was taken very seriously and I doubt that an 8 year old boy would have been expected to understand. Some time passed before Ragnar met and was seduced by Aslaug, and she was Ragnar's Hall.
I think you're confused on the birth, it wasn't her 1st child with Ragnar, it was her third. According to legend, Aslaug bore 4 sons to Ragnar, the 4th given the cognomen "Snake Eye" due to a formation in one of his irises. This is the prophecy she spoke to Ragnar about in this episode.
Another 4 years passed whilst Floki was building enough boats for a massive raid, and by then Bjorn would have been a young adult with his own adventures for the skalds to relate. I would think he was near 20, perhaps older.

(45,850 posts)and at the beginning of the second episode it says 4 years later so that would make Bjorn 17 or 18 and yep a boy can grow a great deal in those years

(50,130 posts)His conflicts. I wonder how that will play out. Ragnar is always interested in learning about religion from the priest he kidnapped.

(11,833 posts)This guy has died and is in a casket. The casket is being led into a church. My friends told me he had converted before his death, so he's going to receive the last rites. So they bring him all the way into the church. Then he pops out of the casket and kills some of the folks in the church. I thought it was pretty cool. That guy seemed like quite a badass. I want to watch it from the beginning. Is it available for streaming?
