Should be fun!

(66,328 posts)When I was living in Texas, I played D&D with a group of guys, and we'd all laugh up our sleeves at the ultra-conservative morons in the neighborhood who would condemn RPG's and pronounce that we were all going to hell.
What really made it fun listening to the idjits was the fact that everyone in our group belonged to one church or another in the area. So it was not like we "didn't know Jesus."
A Jack Chick movie sounds like a straight-to-video project that will play in churches all across America, and never see the inside of a movie theater..

For our small budget we got a tremendous level of quality. Our hope is that it plays far and wide. While a theatrical release is unlikely, we will be playing in a few select theaters.
Dark Dungeons the movie will make its world premier at Gen Con, Indianapolis, the heart of gaming's evil dark heart.
If you have any questions fire away!

(56,828 posts)it's a parody of Jack Chick, right?

(4 posts)We stick very closely, as much as is possible in an adaptation from a 22 panel comic to a film, to show all the arguments that Jack Chick uses against RPGs with all the seriousness they deserve.
We also expose the threat of Cthulhu and the Necronomicon, which according to the Chick web side, and these are direct quote from his website, "the Necronomicon and the Cthulhu mythos are quite real" and " he mocks the Necronomicon and claims it is entirely fictional.59 It is not." As we have thoroughly researched Dark Dungeons both appear in the movie.

(37,159 posts)...since any sufficiently advanced parody of jack Chick tracts is indistinguishable from the real thing.
And premiering at GenCon gives it away.

(7,570 posts)How closely did you follow the tract?
The writing on that thing was cheesy beyond belief in church 30 and 40 years ago were you hoping to stay close to source in an all out satire or was there a conscious attempt to update the material?

(4 posts)Many of the lines and scenes in Dark Dungeons the movie are lifted straight, word for word, from the tract. It is of course expanded on, given that it's only 22 panels long, but we stay very close to the source material and the spirit of the work.
what inspired you to make the movie?

(50,557 posts)Parodying a Chick tract is one of those projects. Let's be real: if you're going to rip on a Chick tract, this is one of the better ones. It would be fun to watch this and "Knights of Badassdom" as a double feature.

(4 posts)I first came across the tract in college and was AMAZED by what it had to say. Blown away by it even. I wanted to make the film them but didn't have the resources. Then, about a decade and a half later, Kickstarter came along and I saw my chance. I asked Jack Chick for the right to film it, and he gave it to me for free. That is important to note: Jack Chick did not receive any money for the rights and will not receive any of the profits from the film.
